It also describes the lessons learnt from survey methodologies used to assess the socioeconomic and biophysical constraints to sweetpotato production in this area. Case studies from similar surveys done in Nigeria and northern New South Wales, Australia, are included as examples. A year later he set up the Southern Highlands Conservation Program (SHCP) to protect key mountain species and habitats. A decade and a half on, the program is Tanzanian run with a staff of 40, and a string of research and conservation successes. He designed the SHCP around research, protected area management and community conservation.

For the purposes of conservation and development the Southern Highlands of Jordan should initially te divided into three zones: a Forest Zone, a Grazing Zone, the 'Jadi Bottoms.

The Forest Zone Objectives 1. The establishment of complete watershed management for soil conservation. The local supply of small timber for roofing and fencing.

In the southern highlands, the forest resources are in a much more degraded state, and little detailed work has been undertaken on them. However, one of the authors (Atkinson) was a member of a survey team which carried out a conserva-tion survey for the Government of Jordan.

The results of the short Kaijende Highlands RAP survey were spectacular and it is clear that additional biodiversity surveys targeting habitats and elevations not covered during the RAP survey will document numerous additional species in the proposed Mt.

Conservation Land Management (CLM) is a quarterly magazine that is widely regarded as essential reading for all who are involved in land management for nature conservation, across the British Isles. CLM includes long-form articles, events listings, publication reviews, new product information and updates, reports of conferences and letters.

Book Description: Originally published inthis report is a compilation of a survey evaluating issues with the local environment in the Southern Highlands. The report is based on a five-day teacher institute and a school year assessment.

Eastern Jordan, which encompasses about 92% of the country's land area, is made up of a section (average elevation: 2, ft/ m) of the Arabian Plateau that in the northeast includes part of the Syrian Desert. In the western part of the plateau are the Jordanian Highlands, which include Jabal Ramm (5, ft/1, m), Jordan's loftiest point.

The book was presented to the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) as one of PNG’s only long term high biodiversity data sets for the country. The book describes the biodiversity in the Hela and Southern Highlands provinces in as well as the methods used to undertake the biodiversity surveys.

Important surveys in Jordan National breeding surveys of rare, poorly known and geographically restricted species in Jordan are shedding light on current distribution and threats to bird habitats, such as windfarms in the southern highlands and unsustainable farming and overgrazing in Wadi Araba and the Jordan Valley.

Occasional summits in this region reach 1, meters in the northern part and exceed 1, meters in the southern part; the highest peak is Jabal Ramm at 1, meters (though the highest peak in all of Jordan is Jabal Umm al Dami at meters. It is located in a remote part of southern Jordan).

The area was historically cleared for farming, but more recent urban expansion has led to further clearing. The Southern Highlands contains a series of significant fragments.
